Larry E Coburn, Leadership and Lean Coach

Based in Eugene, Oregon USA, Larry E. Coburn has 35 years of international business experience in Lean Manufacturing, Training and Coaching. He is an Independent Certified Coach, Teacher and Speaker with The John Maxwell Team. Further, he is on the board of Northwest Christian University in Eugene Oregon (http://www.nwcu.edu) and adjunct faculty in their MBA program.

Prior to launching his consulting practice in 2008, Larry had been with Nike, Inc., for 27 years and contributed immensely to their journey in Lean Manufacturing as a Training Director and as a Lean Leadership Coach. He was the principal architect of a multi-company, multi-cultural lean change agent community - that continues to drive shared learning and sustained continuous improvement within Athletic Footwear factories in SE Asia. He was a key spokesman and a thought leader for NOS (Nike’s Lean Manufacturing initiative) and the chief architect of NIKE’s Lean Manufacturing “House” which remains the basis for Lean Training, Implementation, and Assessment within NIKE Manufacturing partner base.

Not a stranger to Sri Lanka, Larry served MAS Holdings as an independent resource person for many years. He is well conversant with the Sri Lankan corporate needs.

Sampath Thrimavithana

Sampath Thrimavithana is Founding Director of Sponge Global (Pvt) Ltd and Head of Talent Capability Development at Virtusa Polaris CMB-ATC. He was formerly Manager at HSBC Global, Head of L & D at Duo Software and HR Consultant at the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC). Marking a significant milestone in his career, Sampath was recognised as the ‘One of the Most Influential Talent Development Leaders in the World’ by Time Ascent World HRD Congress in 2017.

Sampath is a certified business architect and international trainer providing services to more than 50 top corporate and government institutes in Sri Lanka including MAS Holdings, Brandix, NEXT, Teejay, Columbia, LOLC, DFCC, NTB, AMEX, HSBC, Virtusa, the US Embassy, CMA-CGM etc. He has conducted trainings in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai and Brunei and conducted more than 500 public sessions on various topics in the areas of Thought Leadership and Management.

Sampath is a well known lecturer both in academic and professional fields and features in many forums in Sri Lanka and abroad.

Theja Buddhika Rodrigo

Buddhika’s theoretical grounding is derived from an M.B.A. MBA degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Sri Lanka and he holds a National Diploma in HRM from IPM Sri Lanka and is a certified lean belt holder from Yamaha Motor Company, Japan.

A practicing trainer focusing mainly on teamwork and soft skill development, Buddhika counts over 15 years experience in the learning and development sphere. His ability to infuse music into his programmes and use music as a tool to address stress and human relationships in life, make his programmes relatable to his audience while making this technique unique to him.

He has conducted numerous workshops for leading public and private sector institutions such as universities, government departments and authorities including the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.

Lalith Athukorala

With over 30 years of experience in the Garment Manufacturing industry spanning Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Maldives and Sri Lanka, Lalith Athukorala is a Human Talent Development expert and a faculty member of the Human Resource Management Institute of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel (SLITA), MAS Institute of Management & Technology (MIMT), and Brandix College. Lalith has an M.B.A. from Isle International University and a Diploma in Garment Technology and Production Management from the Scottish College of Textiles in Scotland. He specialised in Supervisory Management, Quality control and Productivity improvement techniques at the Fielden House Productivity Centre and Leek College, UK. He is also an Associate Member of the Clothing and Footwear Institute, London, UK.

Lalith is a founder member of the Clothing Industry Training Institute (CITI) and has developed a number of short term training programmes for garment industry personnel with the direction and the guidance of expatriate consultants. He was also Course Tutor of Certificate and Diploma Courses in Clothing Manufacturing at CITI. Moreover, he has provided technical expertise in preparing “Competency and Beyond”, the training manual for the Apparel and Textile Industry published by the Joint Apparel Associations Forum (JAAF) of Sri Lanka whilst serving on the Technical and Advisory Committee to prepare the job/skill and training standards for key jobs in the apparel sector organised by the NAITA, VTA and USAID.

Lalith has worked with the UNDP and the ILO as Expert Consultant in Bangladesh to set up a basic training institute catering towards the Bangladeshi Garment Industry. With the assistance of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturing Export Association he was able to develop and conduct Production Supervisory and Middle Management, Quality Control and Management and Sewing Machinists’ Instructor Training programmes. During his stayin Bangladesh (1992-1995), he trained around 1,500 supervisory and middle management staff including counterpart staff for the Garment Training Institute, whilst leading a number of productivity improvement consultancy projects for various garment manufacturing organisations in that country. In 1995 he was invited to serve MAS Holdings as the Human Resources Development cum Training Manager at Bodyline (Pvt) Ltd, undertaking commencement of the HRD division at Bodyline and running in-house training programmes for supervisory, middle management and technical executives in order to enhance the productivity of the entire Bodyline operation.

Lalith also introduced a systematic procedure for selection and training of sewing machine operators, identified the training needs of all staff at Bodyline and designed and conducted tailor made training sessions accordingly. As part of the HAY project introduced to Bodyline he conducted training and development programmes for other units of MAS Holdings in Sri Lanka, India and Maldives and also introduced Lean Manufacturing concepts to sewing machine operators and middle management staff. More recently from 2010/2011, Lalith served as an Asst Professor and Program Coordinator (Apparel and Human Resources Management) at the Textile Institute of Pakistan.

Gamini Bandara

Since joining OBT-SL in 1996, he has conducted more than 2000 OBT and other related programmes for all levels of employees of corporates, public and non-governmental organisations. He has also designed and conducted activity-based Lean Management Development programmes for business executives.

Gamini also participated in Training of Trainers programmes and upgrading workshops (inclusive of First Aid & Wilderness Medicine) conducted by the Outward Bound Trust (OBT), Sri Lanka. He participated in a number of local and overseas trainings including Instructor Training in Singapore, Professional Experiences Sharing programmes on Outward Bound Training in Singapore and Malaysia, a creative Training Techniques Programme inIndia and TC model programme in Pakistan.

Prior to his career as a specialised adventure activity trainer, he had been a teacher at St. Thomas’ College Mt Lavinia, a Commissioned Officer of the Sri Lanka National Cadet Corp., and the Training Manager Loadster of the Jinasena Training and Rehabilitation Trust.

He now leads a team that conducts college-to-corporate programmes, for colleges and runs experiential learning workshops for teachers and students based on experiential learning. His hardcore experience in the army has allowed him to develop unique training modules in outbound and inbound environments demonstrating pioneering management interventions in organisational restructuring, strategic facilitations and outbound training.

Leelarathna Obadage

Drawing from his extensive experience in the field he has for many years conducted lectures in Labour Law for Departmental officials as well as carrying out training programmes for the private sector.

Leelarathna who possess a BA (Specialising in Economics field/Statistics) from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura and an LLB (Hons) from the Open University of Sri Lanka, is currently involved in Labour related consultancy for the private sector and also in handling disciplinary inquiries.

Shamali Jayasundara Rajapakse

She is a visiting Lecturer of Human Resources Management at the University of Colombo, National Institute of Labour Studies and some private educational institutions.

Shamali was Head of Human Resources at the American National College of Education Centre Ltd (ANC) responsible in implementing performance management processes, training & development , recruitment and all other HRM related administrative work.

Shamali was Manager - Human Resources at KPMG Sri Lanka, a member firm of KPMG International which is a global network of professional firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services for clients over 150 countries. She provided the leadership to the functions of Recruitment and Selection, Training and Development, Managing Global Performance Management Systems for the Sri Lankan office, as well as employee relations and grievance handling for nine plus years at KPMG.

She has also worked as Assistant Manager with the Human Resources at Gateway Centre for Information Technology Ltd for one and half years.

She is a specialist in many disciplines including Performance Management, Coaching & Mentoring and Train the Trainer programmes on account of the extensive training she has received locally and globally by KPMG and other institutions.

Ajith Jayawardane

Ajith Jayawardane’s career spans a number of countries including Japan, Italy, Oman and the UK. His expertise lies in Career Guidance Counselling, NLP training, Project Management and Mentoring and he has worked with the International Organization of Migration (IOM), Asian Development Bank (ADB), the International Labor Organisation (ILO), USAID, World Bank, the University of Colombo, Marubeni Corporation (Japan), Sultan Qaboos University (Oman), the Darussalam Prime Minister’s Office and the Sri Lankan Ministry of Education, among other private and public sector organisations.

With a Masters in Philosophy from University of Keleniya and a Masters in NLP, Ajith Jayawardane also holds Post Graduate Diplomas in Career Guidance and Counselling and in Community Development from the University of Colombo. He also qualified in Learning Chemistry from Turin and as visiting lecturer developed the National Career Guidance Diploma at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI).

Ajith has worked as a consultant Trainer for Career Guidance, with the ILO’s Youth Employment project (YEP), 2008-2011, served as a Field Trainer for USAID, Accelerated Skills Acquisition Programme (ASAP), 2007-2008 and was a member of the Career Guidance Curriculum Development Board, worked as a Master Trainer, and conducted a number of Training of Trainers (TOT) programmes for public and private sector organisations. Engaged as a resource person for the Career Guidance for Schools, with the National Youth Services Council, and Technical Colleges Ajith has reached more than 60,000 young people in the Western Province Central province andSouthern Province (2003-2008). 15 years as a Career Guidance Counselor to the University of Colombo and one year to the University of Visual and Performing Arts as Director of Career Guidance has prompted Ajith to serve as a Consultant to the State Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational training.

Ajith Jayawardane has a number of publications to his name including a Career Guidance book called “A professional” (Wurthikayek), an Educational Guidance book called “Learning to Learn”, a Training manual for Youth under the sponsorship of ILO Japan, and the first Vocational Training Directory in Sri Lanka among 28 booklets for different career paths as well as a poetry book titled “Poorwa Vishramaya”.

Further, he is a Qualified Assessor to Facilitate Assessment Centers & Development Centers certified by the IPMA – HR, USA. He holds a Special Degree in Chemistry from the University of Colombo which is complemented with an MBA and a Dip in Personnel Management from CIPM Sri Lanka. He has further received his executive education from CCL, McKinsey & Co, Nike Inc., BMC Global Services UK, Coach Masters Academy and an extensive training on Industrial Relations and Human Resources by AOTS, Japan. Prabhash is an NLP Business Practitioner certified by Onefluencer/Sue Knight Books & Talks.

A proud product of Royal College, Colombo, Prabhash was the Founder President of ORHRPA - the Old Royalists’ HR Professionals’ Association. Prabhash is a visiting lecturer of the University of Kelaniya for postgraduate studies and the CIPM Sri Lanka.
